Tottenham Hotspur reportedly want to sign the Celta Vigo ace.
According to a report form the Daily Star, Tottenham have already initiated talks with the agent of Celta Vigo hitman Maxi Gomez, over the possibility of signing the £43 million-rated Uruguayan ace this summer.
Meanwhile, Spurs striker Fernando Llorente could end up leaving the club this summer, according to the Mirror, with his contract close to expiring.
And moving the Spaniard on, whilst bringing in Gomez really would be excellent business from Tottenham.
Llorente has been a decent servant for Spurs over the past two years, but he quite clearly isn’t an elite striker, and Gomez, 22, would be a huge upgrade on the 34-year-old.
The Celta Vigo ace racked up 13 goals and five assists in 35 La Liga appearances this season, and he seems to possess all of the attributes needed to be a success in the Premier League.
At 22, he is also at an age that will prove attractive to Mauricio Pochettino.
The Argentine is well-renowned for working with and improving young talents, and he would surely be able to get the best out of Gomez.
The Uruguay international is a strong centre-forward, and he also possesses decent pace, enabling him to run the channels, stretching the opposition’s defence.
He would be able to play up top with Harry Kane as part of a two, or more likely as the Englishman’s deputy during his first season in the Premier League.
In today’s day and age, £43 million for a player with Gomez’s quality would surely have to be considered as excellent value for money, and he would undoubtedly take Tottenham to another level.
