The Tottenham Hotspur forward could not make the difference with his side desperate for a goal against Leicester City.

When Tottenham Hotspur signed Fernando Llorente for £15million from Swansea City (as reported by the BBC), it was in the hope that the Spaniard could be an effective Plan B for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, offering an alternative option in the latter stages of matches and acting as cover when Harry Kane was unavailable.
But despite scoring 15 goals for the Swans last season, Llorente is yet to get off the mark for Spurs and his performance against Leicester City on Tuesday evening showed just how little the 32-year-old offers.

Tottenham were 2-0 down against the Foxes when Pochettino sent Llorente on from the bench and, while Spurs pulled one goal back via Kane, the summer signing failed to make his mark on a stage tailor-made for him.
Given the players at Tottenham’s disposal, Llorente was never going to be anything more than a super-sub, and yet he cannot even master that role, leaving many to question why the Spaniard was brought in and Vincent Janssen was shipped out on loan after one poor campaign.

Tottenham need players who can influence the game in a heartbeat, with Erik Lamela’s impressive cameo the ideal example.
In Llorente they have a second-choice striking option he cannot buy a goal right now, and that is a worry after the club dug relatively deep to bring him in.
