This summer saw Sheffield Wednesday attacker Fernando Forestieri linked heavily with a move away from Hillsborough.

The impressive playmaker was one of the star players in the Championship last season and had caught the eye of Championship rivals, with Derby County linked.

It even saw Forestieri appear to be frozen out after demanding a move.

That clearly was not the case as he remained with Sheffield Wednesday.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post today, he has made it clear he could stay with the club for the rest of his career.

Forestieri stated:

“I have said before that I love the club and everything and if the chairman gives me a 10-year contract, I can finish my career here as I love the fans and everyone.

“I never said I wanted to leave and Carlos (Carvalhal) knows that. I speak face to face with him and he understands me and that is the most important thing. I have an amazing relationship with him.

“The important thing is that the chairman knows my situation. I never went to other teams. I just want to play because when I play, I forget everything.

“I am not thinking about more money and another contract. I just want to make it clear to the fans that I want to stay here.”

The Argentine-Italian’s statement will be music to the ears of Wednesday fans.

This summer it looked extremely likely that the player could in fact be making his exit from the club and now he is saying he may never leave Hillsborough.

However, that sudden change of tune will certainly see Wednesday take the latest comments with a pinch of salt.

As good as Forestieri is Sheffield Wednesday fans will not be taken for mugs.

Hopefully he can go on to be a legend at Wednesday with another ten years at the club.

However, Owls fans will not currently feel that Forestieri is set to stay for the rest of his career.
