Swansea City have confirmed the signature of Argentine international defender Federico Fernandez from Napoli.
The signature of World Cup runner-up Federico Fernandez has been confirmed on Swansea City’s official website today.
Fernandez wasn’t part of Rafa Benitez’s first-team plans at Napoli despite having featured in Argentina’s run to the World Cup final.
The 25-year-old passed his medical this morning and is a Swansea player as long as he can receive international clearance.
Fernandez has signed a four-year deal in South Wales and will take the number 33 shirt, increasing manager Garry Monk’s defensive options.
The new man is a centre-back and could feature in Swansea’s home game against Burnley on Saturday as they look to build on a shock opening day win against Manchester United.
Last season, Fernandez played in Napoli’s Italian Cup triumph and also featured for them in the Champions League and Europa League, although he didn’t play in the games against Swansea.
