Manchester City have reportedly put Brendan Rodgers in the frame to succeed Pep Guardiola when the Catalan leaves the club in 2023.
According to the Daily Mail, the Leicester City boss will reject any advances from Newcastle United. Rodgers is reportedly holding out for the City job, which is set to become available in 18 months time.
Guardiola’s deal with the club expires in the summer of 2023. And the three-time Premier League winner, as per the report, will likely leave Manchester.
The Daily Mail also claim that city are conscious that the players will need either a big-name coach or a top manager to ease the blow of Guardiola leaving, with Rodgers, they believe, covering the latter category.
Indeed, replacing Guardiola will be no small feat for City. After all, the former Bayern Munich coach is one of the most decorated coaches in football history. And the Catalan manager has brought unrivalled success to the Manchester giants.
With so few names in the game even coming close to Guardiola’s CV, replacing him at City will be difficult. Yet Rodgers could be an interesting option given his recent success with Leicester.
City fans fume at links to Rodgers

However, City supporters on social media are not sold on the idea of the former Liverpool manager replacing Guardiola at the club. After all, the Northern Irish coach is yet to win a Premier League title.
Here’s what some City fans had to say on Twitter about Rodgers being in the frame to replace Guardiola…
