Former Ibrox star Barry Ferguson has written in The Daily Record that Nikola Katic will be “devastated” with his injury.

The former Rangers midfielder believes that Katic works really hard after having a poor game and always wants to improve himself.

As announced earlier this week, the 23-year-old central defender sustained an injury during pre-season training and has been ruled out for the foreseeable future.

According to The Daily Record, Katic is likely to be on the sidelines for at least six months, and that the injury he picked up is an ACL injury.

Ferguson wrote in The Daily Record: “Yes, Katic has been in and out of his back four over the last couple of years but he looks to me as if he’s worked really hard to improve himself every time he’s had a poor game or a setback.

“He’s still young for a centre half and is probably a work in progress but I see a player in there and I’m sure he was coming back this summer looking to nail down his place in the starting line-up.

“Now, after three months in lockdown, he’s looking at another long spell out of action. He’ll be devastated about that.”

Stats

Katic joined Rangers from Slaven Belupo in the summer of 2018 for a transfer fee reported by The Scottish Sun to be worth £2 million.

According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, Katic scored two goals and provided one assist in 19 Scottish Premiership matches and also played twice in the Europa League for Rangers this past season.

During the 2018-19 campaign, the Croatia international central defender played 18 times in the league and once in the Europa League, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.
