Rio Ferdinand told his official YouTube channel that the ‘unbelievable’ Marcelo Bielsa is ‘not going to change for no-one’ despite Leeds United’s 6-2 defeat on Sunday.
But Ferdinand did express his surprise at Leeds United’s defeat at Old Trafford and the ‘gulf’ in scoreline between themselves and Manchester United.
From beating Newcastle 5-2 in midweek, Leeds were then on the back end of their own thumping, which perhaps summed up how they approach things under their unique coach.
A lot was made about how Leeds approached matters on Sunday, as Ferdinand shared his thoughts on the proceedings that unfolded.
“I didn’t see this result coming,” said Ferdinand. “I saw goals. But I didn’t see it being such a gulf in terms of the scoreline.
“I was worried for Leeds before the game if they continued and played the way they are playing, which is aggressive, which is front foot and one v one all over the pitch when they haven’t got the ball. I just felt that played into Man United’s hands.
“Bielsa, who is talked about as an unbelievable coach. I went and watched him coach his team and I was blown away, to be honest with you. He’s got certain ideals that he lives by and he’ll live and die by. He’s not going to change for no-one. You have to respect that. Yes, you need a plan b. I do always say that I do always love to see a plan b, at times.
“But when you have a system that you know works for you. You are used to it. You have got it down to a tee and you feel if we get it right then we should beat a lot of teams.”

Given how Leeds play, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they go on and record a thumping 5-1 win on Boxing Day.
Whilst some will criticise Leeds for how they play, they have still ripped teams apart and still managed to keep clean sheets at the right time this season.
They have done enough to ensure that they won’t be in trouble, but that doesn’t shy away from the fact that they are the entertainers for this campaign.
