Ferdinand claims Liverpool have 2 things ‘to die for’ & 2016 signing is even more important now

Rio Ferdinand told his official YouTube channel that Liverpool have a midfield and a forward line ‘to die for’.

Amid the injuries that are piling up on Merseyside, he also thinks someone like Gini Wijnaldum is ‘even more’ key for Liverpool now because of the various positions he can play.

The last thing Jurgen Klopp wants to see coming around the corner with his injury problems is a festive fixture list because it’s no doubt the toughest and most gruelling time of the year.

But that’s what is heading his way and Ferdinand explained why his technically gifted Dutchman is now even more important to him.

“They have amazing quality all over the park,” said Ferdinand. “Their midfield and forward line is to die for.

“I think Wijnaldum has been a key player before but now even more so with all these injuries. I think his ability to play in multiple positions.

“He can play the ten. He plays brilliantly there for Holland, scoring loads of goal and he could quite easily play the holding role like he did in the last game. I think he is somebody who is of huge importance. Fabinho has had to go to the backline now.

“So, he comes to the fore as being one of the main men in the team if you didn’t already believe that. His role will be pivotal with all these injuries and how Liverpool do.”

An underrated figure during his time at Anfield, this may well be the last season Wijnaldum spends at Liverpool given that his contract runs out next summer.

Signed from Newcastle in 2016, the goalscoring winger was transformed into a combative, workman-like midfielder by Klopp.

There are a lot of supporters who feel, if, given the freedom, he has more to his game in the final third, but could that come out if Klopp needs to play him in a more attacking position during these coming weeks?
