Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Micah Richards has expressed sympathy for Ryan Sessegnon after he was substituted after just 25 minutes for Tottenham at the weekend.

Spurs got off to a nightmare start against Wolves on Sunday. They were 2-0 down in double-quick time, and understandably, Conte wanted to change things rather promptly.

The Italian made his first substitution in the first half, and sadly, the man to make way was Ryan Sessegnon.

Richards says that he felt very sorry for Sessegnon after he was hooked.

What’s been said?

Richards gave his verdict on the Sessegnon substitution.

“Sessegnon, I felt so sorry for him when he got hooked, he’s quite a young player and it’s never really happened for him there. It’s just, every part of the puzzle seems to be the wrong way around at this moment in time,” Richards said.

Confidence destroyer

This could really damage Sessegnon’s future at Tottenham.

The youngster has found chances hard to come by at Spurs, and sadly, he’s once again failed to grasp an opportunity.

Sessegnon has suffered setback after setback at Spurs, and it’s easy to assume that his confidence will now be at an all-time low.

Sessegnon could bounce back in an attempt to prove his manager wrong, or he could let this incident destroy his confidence.

It will certainly be interesting to see how the former Championship Player of the Year reacts to this incident.
