Leeds United have signed Felix Wiedwald from Werder Bremen in the summer transfer window.

Leeds United have competed the signing of Felix Wiedwald from Werder Bremen in the summer transfer window.

According to The Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds paid Bremen a transfer fee of £500,000 in order to secure the services of Wiedwald.

The 27-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year contract with the Championship club and will be aiming to become the first-choice goalkeeper at Elland Road during the 2017-18 campaign.

The former Germany Under-20 international has stated his personal target at Leeds and has outlined his strengths.

“I have come to play and give my best on the pitch, the target is to keep as many clean sheets as I can, I want to develop and I hope we can have a very good season,” Wiedwald told Leeds’s official website.

“My strengths are doing well in one-on-one situations and I am good with my feet, I want to play football and I am a strong player.”

Leeds fans should be delighted with Wiedwald’s comments. They clearly show that he is a confident goalkeeper who is going to be a brilliant addition to the current squad.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt custodian featured in 25 Bundesliga appearances for Bremen last season, helping them to an eighth-placed finish in the league.

Robert Green was Leeds’s first-choice goalkeeper last season, but it seems that he will be given a run for his money by Wiedwald during the 2017-18 campaign.
