Felix Wiedwald recently became Leeds United’s latest signing, and is determined to keep the likes of Rob Green and Marco Silvestri out of the side.

Felix Wiedwald has suggested that he has arrived at Leeds to be the side’s new number one goalkeeper, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.

Wiedwald became the Whites’ fourth signing of the summer following the permanent acquisitions of Hadi Sacko, Madger Gomes and Mateusz Klich.

It may have perhaps surprised supporters to see the German arrive at Elland Road with Rob Green in such fine form last season and Marco Silvestri a very decent understudy at Championship level.

However, the 27-year-old has outlined that he has arrived in Yorkshire for regular game-time.

“Of course. I am coming to play. I want to develop us and me and I hope we will play a good season,” he said, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, when asked if he is arriving to be the club’s first-choice.

It will undoubtedly be a major blow for Green, in particular, if Thomas Christiansen deems Wiedwald to be his number one for the new season as many fans would have felt confident that the Whites would have still been capable of battling for promotion with the former England stopper between the sticks.

But if Leeds do not sanction any permanent departures for any of their senior goalkeepers, their presence should also ensure that, if Wiedwald is number one, the former Werder Bremen man cannot allow himself to become complacent as Christiansen has plenty of quality to pick from.
