Leeds United goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald has told the club’s official website that playmaker Samu Saiz is the Whites best player due to his technical abilities.

Wiedwald and Saiz were both summer signings at Elland Road at the start of the season, with the German goalkeeper joining the club from Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen while Saiz moved to Yorkshire from Spanish side Huesca.

Saiz, 27, has otherwise been a revelation at Elland Road since his £3.5million move, scoring nine goals and adding another five strikes in assists during his 25 appearances.

Wiedwald believes it is Saiz’s ability on the ball that makes him stand head and shoulders above the rest of Paul Heckingbottom’s squad, overlooking the likes of Pontus Jansson, Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Kalvin Phillips.

“We have a lot of good players,” Wiedwald said. “But you know for the most technical player and the most smart player, I believe it is Samu.”

The former Atletico Madrid forward is set to serve the final game of a six-match suspension on Sunday afternoon as Leeds play host to Lee Johnson’s Bristol City at Elland Road.

Saiz was given the ban after spitting at Newport County’s Robbie Willmott in the disappointing 2-1 loss to the League Two side in the third round of the FA Cup last month.

He has since been replaced by the likes of Pablo Hernandez and Ezgjan Alioski, and Heckingbottom is likely to rely on those two attacking midfielders to supply the creativity against the Robins come Sunday afternoon.
