West Ham United badly need to strengthen their squad this summer.
Manuel Pellegrini has a lot of work to do at West Ham this summer, if he is to build a squad of players who are capable of making vast improvements upon their sub-par Premier League campaign last term.
The Chilean already seems to be actively looking to bolster his options at the London Stadium with reported moves for Lazio’s Felipe Anderson (Sky Sports) and Toulouse’s Issa Diop (the Mirror).
Anderson, 25, will cost somewhere in the region of £35 million, whilst Diop will set the Hammers back around £20 million.
West Ham have proven to have a rather weak spine over the past couple of seasons, but signing the two aforementioned players would totally transform them.
Anderson is a right midfielder by trade, and would offer Pellegrini an entirely different option, what with his wonderful technique and ability to beat a player.
Diop, meanwhile, is a solid centre-back, and standing at just under 6ft 4in tall, he would provide West Ham with a much more rigid defensive setup.
The east London outfit are in desperate need of reinforcements this summer, and signing the Brazilian and the Frenchman would finally be the kind of additions that will excite their long suffering fanbase.
The two deals are obviously a long way from being completed, but West Ham should not hesitate to make them happen, if they truly want to make real progress this season.
