Liverpool target Frenkie de Jong has been speaking alongside Virgil van Dijk in a World Cup press conference for the Netherlands.

The £65m playmaker is wanted at Anfield by Jürgen Klopp – according to The Times – and he has now shared some interesting comments which will get Liverpool fans excited about a potential transfer.

Liverpool target De Jong loves Van Dijk

Well, if Klopp successfully lures De Jong to Merseyside, Liverpool fans should expect to see plenty of calmness in the middle of the park, according to the man himself.

Speaking alongside Van Dijk in a press conference, the Barcelona No.21 said: “When I look behind me and I see Virgil van Dijk, it gives me a feeling of calmness. A feeling of safety.”

In our view, any midfielder who has played ahead of the Liverpool No.4 would probably say the same thing – he is a colossal presence at the back, one who can certainly be relied on.

So far this season, De Jong has made 17 appearances for Barcelona, scoring two goals while also providing one assist.

Liverpool have good chance of signing De Jong

In our view, Liverpool have a fantastic chance of signing the Dutch maestro.

According to The Athletic, Barcelona still owe Liverpool money for the signing of Philippe Coutinho, and their ability to repay the Reds was dented after Xavi guided the Spaniards into the Europa League rather than the Champions League Round of 16.

Forbes believe De Jong is someone Barcelona are ready to sell in January as they aim to balance their books, so with Liverpool already owed money by the Catalans, it would make sense if they sold him to Klopp.

If a move does materialise, Liverpool would have a mouthwatering midfield duo of Thiago and De Jong ahead of Van Dijk – few teams would be able to get the ball off Klopp’s side with such a composed pairing pulling the strings.
