It’s been well-documented that Wijnaldum’s contract at Liverpool is due to expire at the end of the season.
The Liverpool Echo have claimed that Wijnaldum is now set to leave Anfield this summer after the club rejected his demands.
If Wijnaldum does head for the exit door then he will leave some legacy on Merseyside, with that standout moment being against Barcelona.
Of course, the £25 million Dutchman (BBC Sport) played a pivotal role in Liverpool winning the Champions League and the Premier League.
And with fresh rumours surfacing about his future, the Liverpool faithful have issued a mixed response.
Perhaps when Wijnaldum leaves will his presence and quality in the middle of the park will be felt.
Amongst the Liverpool midfielders, many have been injury-prone and struggled to provide the consistency he has brought to the table.
When that’s gone then the burden will feel be felt that much more on those who have perhaps been stop-start, both in terms of form and injuries.
