‘You’ll end up at Bromley or the Premier League’, those were the words Neil Warnock told Tottenham-bound Djed Spence last summer before loaning him out to Nottingham Forest.
At the time, Warnock was the manager of Middlesbrough, who were tipped to do better than Forest before a ball was kicked, but the Midlands side ended up earning promotion to the Premier League instead, with Spence flying down the wing.
Now, the 21-year-old is headed to Tottenham, and following Warnock’s comments about how the player could end up at ‘Bromley’ or the ‘Premier League’, the non-league side posted this brilliant reaction to his comments on Twitter.
SPENCE PROVING HIS WORTH
The fact of the matter is that Spence proved his worth in Nottingham Forest colours, he got promoted, whilst Warnock was handed yet another p45.
The former English coach claims that current Boro winger, Isaiah Jones, is a better player than Spence, well, if that was the case, then Spurs wouldn’t be putting money on the table for Spence instead of Jones, would they?
At the end of the day, Forest boss Steve Cooper is a very good judge of character and he clearly trusted Spence throughout the season.
Plus, the versatile defender produced the goods week in and week out during a tough, gruelling and promotion-winning campaign for Forest.
Warnock is probably more likely heading towards managing in non-league than Spence is playing in that division because this narrative about the player that is being built up is pretty ridiculous.
Nothing is being put forward as to what he exactly did wrong, regarding his attitude, if anything, at the Riverside Stadium.
The only evidence you can go on is that he performed at an admirable level in the colours of Forest, he was constantly picked by Cooper, he produced the goods out on the pitch and then praised by the Forest boss
So, perhaps Warnock was the problem rather than the player himself, who is having this negative cloud attached to him ahead of his move to Spurs.
