Former Swansea City duo Federico Fernandez and Ki Sung-yueng are reunited at Newcastle United.
Ki joined Newcastle on a free transfer in June, having left Swansea City at the end of last season.
Fernandez moved to the Magpies from the Swans earlier this month for a transfer fee reported by Sky Sports to be worth £6 million.
The 29-year-old Argentine central defender played with 29-year-old central midfielder Ki at Swansea, and he has revealed what the South Korea international told him about Newcastle.
Fernandez told The Chronicle about Ki: “I found out a couple of weeks ago that Newcastle were interested. But it was really in the last two days of the window that it became something more intense.
“I spoke with Ki a lot before I came. He only had good things to say about the club, the city and everyone at Newcastle.
“When I was on my way [to Tyneside on deadline day], he sent me a message telling me he was glad I was joining him. Everything was fine, we have a very good relationship.”
Good signings for Newcastle United
Fernandez and Ki are proven Premier League players, and the duo are good signings for Newcastle in the summer transfer window.
A player of Fernandez’s quality and experience is going to make the Magpies defensively, while Ki and Jonjo Shelvey can form a formidable partnership in midfield just like the one they had at Swansea.
Newcastle lost their opening game of the Premier League season 2-1 to Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park this past weekend.
