Federico Fazio was the pick of the Tottenham Hotspur backline in the draw against Palace.
Federico Fazio’s adjustment to Premier League football continues to gather pace.
The giant Argentine international impressed once again as Spurs kept a clean sheet at White Hart Lane.
While the 0-0 draw to Crystal Palace may have been a disappointing result for Spurs fans, it should be quantified by Liverpool conceding three to the same side a week earlier.
| Match | Won Tackle | Interception Won | Aerial Won | Accurate Cross | Shots Blocked | Goal Assist | Goals | Total | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Federico Fazio | Tottenham vs C. Palace | 1 | 6 | 10 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 19 | 90 |
| Eric Dier | Tottenham vs C. Palace | 4 | 1 | 6 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 12 | 90 |
| Ben Davies | Tottenham vs C. Palace | 3 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 8 | 90 |
| Jan Vertonghen | Tottenham vs C. Palace | 0 | 0 | 3 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 5 | 90 |
Stacking up the performance of the defenders who featured, by adding up their various selected attributes, Fazio was the best Tottenham star in the backline.
Fazio made three times as many interceptions as the rest of the Spurs defence combined, and won the same amount of aerial duels as Dier, Davies and Vertonghen totalled.
For just £8 million, Fazio is beginning to look like an excellent addition, and a far superior player to captain Younes Kaboul.
Just like with Ben Davies, his cut-price addition may well be a shrewd piece of business this summer, showing Tottenham’s eye for talent may not be so poor after all.
