The 30-year-old left Tottenham Hotspur for Roma on a permanent deal in the summer of 2017.

Roma ace Federico Fazio sat down for an exclusive interview with Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport, and admitted that he doesn’t know why Spurs decided to sell him to the Serie A side in the summer.

The 30-year-old joined Tottenham from Sevilla in the summer of 2014, but failed to establish himself in north London, making just 20 Premier League appearances before being loaned out to his former club on transfer deadline day in February 2016.

He then spent last season on loan in the Italian capital before making his switch a permanent one six months ago.

Fazio has actually impressed for Roma, which will surprise Spurs fans, considering his ill-fated spell at White Hart Lane.

The Argentine spoke exclusively to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, and explained how his move away from Tottenham came about, whilst admitting that he is unsure as to why they sold him:

“Tottenham? I played 33 games in my first season with them. After that the president wanted to change I don’t know why. I spent six more months there but I had already decided to leave. England is different, there is not much tactical work and when you go out nobody knows you. Passion for football is different, Italians are more similar to Argentineans.”

With Roma and Tottenham safely through to the knockout stages of the Champions League, there is still a possibility that Fazio could face his former club in the quarter-finals of the competition, if both sides safely navigate their respective ties against Shakhtar Donetsk and Juventus.

And the Argentine would surely relish the opportunity to prove to his former employers that they made a huge mistake in selling him.
