Tony Cascarino has predicted in The Times that Leeds United will be the surprise package of the season in the Premier League.

Leeds will play in the Premier League this season after winning automatic promotion from the Championship at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

The West Yorkshire club will kick off their new season against Liverpool away from home at Anfield on Saturday evening.

Former Chelsea and Aston Villa striker Cascarino – who now works as a pundit for talkSPORT and The Times – believes that Leeds could be the surprise package in the top flight of English football this season.

When asked who the surprise package of the season will be, Cascarino told The Times: “Leeds United. It’s either feast or famine with Marcelo Bielsa but I think their attack-minded football will pay dividends.”

Big season ahead

This is the first time that Leeds will play in the Premier League since 2004, having become also-rans in the Championship until Marcelo Bielsa was appointed the head coach in the summer of 2018.

No one genuinely expects the Whites to challenge for the Europa League places this season, but the Elland Road faithful will be confident of the team being competitive in the Premier League and not battling for survival.

However, Leeds need to make a strong start and have to pick up points in the first weeks of the season.
