Speaking on the Premier League’s YouTube channel, Alan Shearer has heaped praise upon Aaron Ramsdale, claiming that he has a lot of potential.
The goalkeeper hasn’t had the best of seasons at Sheffield United, but there have been glimpses of quality on show this term, and he’s done enough to catch Shearer’s eye.
“In our first episode we analysed Illan Meslier, this month we’re looking at another fine young keeper in Aaron Ramsdale,” Shearer said.
“He’s only 22 but he’s already got a wealth of experience at the top level. He’s got the fifth-most appearances by a keeper under 23 in Premier League history. He’s not had an easy season though and neither have Sheffield United.
“For me Ramsdale, he’s got lots of potential, he’s strong, he’s got the agility to stop shots from distance and he’s fearless, putting his body on the line from close range.”

That’s one thing you have to remember when watching Ramsdale. He’s still incredibly young.
Goalkeepers often don’t peak until they’re in their late 20s, so there’s a lot for Ramsdale to learn, and while he hasn’t filled the void left behind by Dean Henderson at Bramall Lane this term, he may have the best part of a decade as the Blades’ number one.
It seems that in all likelihood United will be relegated this term, and perhaps a season in the Championship is exactly what Ramsdale needs at this point.
