Mateusz Klich left Leeds United on a half-season loan to Utrecht in the Netherlands this week.

FC Utrecht Sporting Director Jordy Zuidam has suggested to the Dutch club’s official website that Mateusz Klich’s reasons for leaving Leeds United this week were linked to an ambition to go to the World Cup.
The Poland midfielder has left Leeds on a half-season loan after struggling to make an impact in Thomas Christiansen’s side following a £1.5 million summer move from FC Twente.
The 27-year-old had made four Championship appearances all season long and only one of those was from the start.

Klich has 10 caps for his country since making his debut back in 2011, though he has been absent from the international scene for three-and-a-half years.
Nevertheless, Poland will compete for the World Cup this summer and Zuidam suggests that going to Russia with his country was a factor in his decision to quit Leeds this week.
The 37-year-old told Utrecht’s official website: “We are convinced that Mateusz provides our team with an extra quality.

“He has shown to be a player who can make a difference in the Eredivisie, and Mateusz has a huge drive to put himself in the spotlight to make Poland’s World Cup squad.”
It seems unlikely that Klich will make Poland’s squad, given how he played no role in helping them qualify for the competition, but Leeds fans can’t fault his ambition.
He is clearly a decent player who, for whatever reason, was unfancied by Christiansen, who has an abundance of midfield options it must be said.
