The Austrian international is set to join the club this summer, but a clause means it cannot be announced.
It was reported in March by the London Evening Standard that Tottenham Hotspur were looming in on the signature of FC Koln defender Kevin Wimmer.
The Austrian defender has showed some good form for the German cub this season and Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly very confident of agreeing a €6 million fee for the player to arrive in the summer.
Those reports continued and the player himself spoke about the links in an interview with German daily Bild last month, stating he had spoken to Pochettino about a move and had a look around Hotspur Way.
But while it genuinely believed that a deal is done, nothing official has yet been announced. Now the reason why has seemingly been revealed.
It is believed Tottenham did not want any of their current defenders to think they didn’t have a future at the club, in order to have them playing to their full potential until the end of the campaign. Based on recent performances, that theory has not worked.
Latz is quoted as saying:
“Kevin will be sold. We can confirm, but for contractual reasons not say where he’s going. The new club do not want that.”
So it seems the Wimmer deal is indeed done and after they take on Everton this Sunday, it can be finally be made official.
