Nottingham Forest owner joked the club’s win was down the to the fan protest against him.

Nottingham Forest got back to winning ways at the weekend against Bristol City, winning 1-0 at the City Ground.

After a torrid week of unrest off the field, they could not have asked for a better fixture than against a Robins side which had lost their previous six league matches.

Despite the victory, the three points felt secondary to protests outside the ground ahead of the match which saw supporters vent their frustrations at controversial club owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi.

Al-Hasawi announced via the club website last week that his proposed deal to sell the club to US investors had collapsed, and sacked manager Philippe Montanier 24 hours later.

The Kuwaiti was on social media after the weekend’s win, and took a light hearted dig at the protests against him, sarcastically suggesting that this was the reason Forest won the match, their first victory of 2017.

Forest’s next fixture against Leeds United could be a lot tougher, with the Whites up in the play-off places.
