Alexis Vega needs to leave Mexican football after the World Cup amid interest from Premier League duo Wolves and Liverpool, the Chivas de Guadalajara star’s father tells ESPN.
Heading to Qatar, Mexico were hoping to bring an end to a remarkable run of seven straight round-of-16 exits on the biggest of stages. Well, this isn’t exactly the way they wanted to go about it.
A 0-0 draw with Poland, followed by a 2-0 defeat to a Lionel Messi-inspired Argentina, means Tata Martino’s shot-shy side are now facing up to the prospect of bowing out at the group-stage for the first time since 1978.

That is despite the best efforts of Alexis Vega; one of the few players in this El Tri squad capable of pulling a proverbial rabbit out of the hat.
Liverpool, Wolves, Real Madrid and Chelsea like Mexico ace Alexis Vega
According to Give Me Sport, Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Wolverhampton Wanderers are all keeping tabs on the silky forward. And, having celebrated his 25th birthday recently, Vega’s father believes the time is right for a new challenge. A big move to a big league.
“He needs to leave the Mexican league,” says Ernesto Vega. “He is ready to compete in any league, he needs that challenge.
“There are already talks with teams. Hopefully he will have the opportunity to fulfil that dream of going to Europe.”
An ambitious, exciting attacker never afraid to shoot from distance; Vega produced three goals and four assists for Chivas de Guadalajara before the World Cup break.
According to Mexican publication El10, Sevilla, Real Betis and Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven are also in the running for Vega’s £8 million-rated signature. PSV already have Vega’s compatriot Erick Gutierrez in their ranks. They also handed Hirving Lozano his big break in Europe a few years ago.
What’s more, PSV are also in the market for a talented wide forward capable of replacing Cody Gakpo. Vega, who like Gakpo prefers to drift in from the left, would certainly fit the bill.
