Isco has been chased by Spurs for some time, but it appears the wait will have to go on.
Tottenham Hotspur will be forced to wait until the end of the season before continuing their longstanding pursuit of Real Madrid star Isco, judging by what the player’s father and agent has said to Calciomercato.
Spurs have been linked with a move for 24-year-old Isco since soon after his move to Real in 2013, with the Spaniard failing to hold down a regular starting spot at the Bernabeu.
Isco cost the La Liga giants around £25 million when they signed him from Malaga three years ago, but after initially starring for the club the playmaker has been restricted to a more limited role in recent times.
Spurs were heavily linked with a big-money move for the star this summer, but nothing ever materialised from that reported interest.
Since then, under Zinedine Zidane this season, Isco has played just 126 minutes of competitive football, and there had been talk that he could be keen on a move to White Hart Lane in January.
However, the player’s father and agent Paco Alcaron has told Calciomercato that a January move is out of the question, suggesting that Spurs may have to put their interest on the backburner until next summer.
Alcaron said: “We’ve opted to keep a low profile with the press and I can ensure that we are not going to consider any offer before next summer.”
Isco would undoubtedly be a top-class addition to most sides in world football, and for Spurs could represent the kind of marquee signing they may feel they need to kick them on the the level of regular, genuine title challengers.
