West Ham United fans feel the club should have strengthened more during the summer.
The Hammers lost their opening three Premier League games and missed out on William Carvalho and Andre Gomes in the transfer market to make for a miserable start to the season.
They brought in Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta, Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez but Slaven Bilic has admitted he cleared out his squad as he was so certain of landing Carvalho and Gomes.
West Ham only have three senior strikers at their disposal and both Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho are injury prone.
So should West Ham be keeping tabs on the developing situation surrounding former hero Carlos Tevez in China.
Tevez’s goals and performances were the catalyst to keep West Ham up during their Great Escape season in 2007.
He is now one of the worlds best paid players at Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua but things have not gone well for the Argentine in the Far East.
Tevez has scored just two goals in 15 games for the club and new coach Wu Jingui has accused him of being “overweight” as reported by Sky Sports.
Jingui said he will not pick Tevez on reputation alone and the situation suggests it could be the beginning of the end for the striker in China.
“He is overweight… I have to take responsibility for the team and the players as well. If you are unable to do your utmost to play, there’s no point in picking you,” Jingui said, as reported by Sky Sports.
“I have coached lots of big stars, and my players are never picked on reputation.”
At 33 Tevez still has at least a couple of years left in him at the top level and never relied on electric pace as part of his game.
If his contract is terminated in China he would be a free agent and available to sign outside the transfer window which has now shut.
Tellingly Tevez admitted back in 2010 he has “unfinished business” with the East Londoners.
“Their (West Ham’s) supporters feel football; they are passionate, these people invested great support in me,” Tevez told the Daily Mail back in 2010.
“I wish to play again for West Ham before I finish my career. I have some unfinished business there.”
