Farah Williams has told BT Sport that Arsenal have a player like Wayne Rooney, in Gabriel Jesus – after the Brazilian impressed once again without scoring against FC Zurich on Thursday night, in a 1-0 Europa League win at the Emirates.
The Gunners secured top spot in Group A with another win, and another clean sheet. However, it did not go all their own way against a side they were expected to beat comfortably. Kieran Tierney scored the only goal of the game.
Lashing home a half-volley from the edge of the area, the Scotland international was excellent. His goal and display saw Martin Keown suggest he was sending a message to Mikel Arteta. But Jesus went another game without a goal.
The ex-Manchester City man has now failed to score in eight games. But since his last goal, he has managed to lay on three assists – including two against Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Williams likened him to “street footballer” Rooney.
“He reminds me of Rooney, that street footballer. They show that passion, grit, desire on and off the ball. He does that. Rooney was the ultimate team player, Jesus is often seen out wide. What Jesus has brought is a different mentality.”

Williams: Arsenal have a player like Rooney in Jesus despite lack of goals
Jesus has been a wonderful signing. Many of his teammates have spoken of the mentality he has brought to the club, and he has still netted five Premier League goals, 11 goal involvements in 12 League games. He cannot be criticised.
He has been excellent for the Gunners. Unfortunately for Jesus, a striker is judged on their goals and when the likes of Harry Kane and Erling Haaland are scoring at an incredible rate, his tally is going to be compared. He will score goals.
