Borussia Dortmund director Michael Zorc has issued a very clear statement on reported Liverpool target Jude Bellingham.

Speaking to Bild via Fabrizio Romano, the Bundesliga official has said that the 18-year-old midfielder, who reportedly makes £49,000-a-week with Dortmund, is set to stay with the club for the foreseeable future.

Liverpool are eager to sign Bellingham with the Reds consistently linked with a move for the England international. The Premier League giants still have a void in their squad left by Georginio Wijnaldum, who left for PSG in the summer.

Moreover, with Bellingham establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in Germany, it makes sense why a club like Liverpool are eager to sign the teenager. The former Birmingham City star has flourished in both the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League.

The England star has also impressed in multiple positions for Dortmund under Marco Rose. But according to Zorc, the youngster will be staying in west Germany for the time being.

The Dortmund sporting director said: “Bellingham made a conscious decision in favour of Borussia and the concept that we presented to him. His development in Dortmund is far from over. His head is very clear.”

Liverpool will have to play the waiting game for Bellingham

Bellingham joining the Premier League seems to be a matter of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’, and for Liverpool, they will have to play the long game for the England star. But the wait could well be worth it.

Indeed, at 18, Bellingham is mature way beyond his years. And for Liverpool, the Midlands-born dynamo could be the perfect player to lead the midfield for many years to come if they can beat out Premier League rivals for the youngster’s signature.
