Fulham want an obscene fee for Ryan Sessegnon but another Spurs target, Faouzi Ghoulam, will be available on a free with his contract at Napoli expiring next summer.

Faouzi Ghoulam of SSC Napoli celebrates his goal during the Serie A match between Hellas Verona and SSC Napoli at Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi on August 19, 2017 in Verona, Italy.

Faouzi Ghoulam is a man in demand with his contract at Napoli due to expire at the end of the current campaign. According to The Sun, Manchester City are considering a move for the Algerian international in January after manager Pep Guardiola admitted that he could turn to the transfer market to replace stricken left-back Benjamin Mendy.

And the report adds that Liverpool and Chelsea are also keen on a player who appears unlikely to extend his stay with the Serie A giants beyond the 2017/18 season.

Though Tottenham Hotspur cannot yet be discounted. Italian paper Corriere dello Mezzogiorno reported last month that Spurs were planning to move for Ghoulam next summer, when he will most likely be available on a free transfer.

This is likely to be a result of the confusion surrounding Danny Rose’s future, the Leeds-born left-back admitting in that infamous interview with The Sun that he would be tempted by the offer of a big contract and a return to his northern roots.

And although Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon remains Tottenham’s priority, you get the feeling that bargain-hunting chairman Daniel Levy may be a little more convinced by the prospect of signing a player proven in the Champions League and the very top of Italian football for nothing than a 17-year-old with just a few months of senior football under his belt.

Especially with The Times reporting that Championship side Fulham are demanding £50 million for Sessegnon – a fee that would make the teenager Tottenham’s all-time record transfer.

Sessegnon may be one of Europe’s most exciting talents but, if it’s immediate value for money you’re after, Ghoulam could be Spurs’ answer.
