Start or Sub offers a look at the best and worst Fantasy Football options for each gameweek.
Big-name options are unlikely to be included, as the Start of Sub pieces will give Fantasy managers an insight into budget options, and whether they should be in your starting line-up or left on the bench…
Start
Lee Grant, Stoke City v Crystal Palace (FPL: £4.4m)
Stoke have conceded just two goals in their last three home league games, and take on a Palace side who have scored only three goals in their last six league games. This looks like an ideal clean sheet opportunity, and at just £4.4m in FPL, Grant should be in many teams this weekend.
Vito Mannone, Sunderland v Southampton (£4.3m)
One of the cheapest goalkeepers in FPL at just £4.3m, Mannone has kept two clean sheets in a row and has made 30 saves in his last five games. A matchup against a goal-shy Southampton side looks promising for the Italian, who should keep his place in goal despite Jordan Pickford’s imminent return from injury.
Hull City’s Eldin Jakupovic
Eldin Jakupovic, Hull City v Arsenal (£4.0m)
If you’re looking for a goalkeeper on a budget, then Hull’s Jakupovic is ideal given that there are only two cheaper shot-stoppers on FPL. The Swiss goalkeeper has kept two clean sheets in a row, making 19 saves in his last four games. Jakupovic should face plenty of shots away at Arsenal, though his chances of another clean sheet are greatly diminished.
Sleepers: Darren Randolph, West Ham v West Brom / Lukasz Fabianski, Swansea City v Leicester City.
Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet
Sub
Simon Mignolet, Liverpool v Tottenham
The Liverpool goalkeeper has made a couple of errors recently, meaning Loris Karius may be pushing him for a start again. At £4.7m on FPL, there are better options on the market than Mignolet, as a porous Liverpool defence welcome Tottenham to Anfield on Saturday evening.
Artur Boruc, Bournemouth v Manchester City
Bournemouth’s defence has been leaky ever since losing Nathan Ake to Chelsea, as they allowed Everton to score six times last weekend. Boruc has made just nine saves in four games, and with the red-hot Gabriel Jesus arriving at the Vitality Stadium on Monday evening, there doesn’t appear to be much upside for Boruc this weekend.
Wayne Hennessey, Crystal Palace v Stoke City
Palace have yet to solidify their defence under Sam Allardyce, and remarkably leaked four goals at home to Sunderland last Saturday. With just one clean sheet in his last ten outings, Hennessey has little value despite his £4.3m price tag,
Also avoid: Claudio Bravo, Manchester City v Bournemouth / Heurelho Gomes, Watford v Manchester United.
