Everton fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was announced that Ellis Simms had signed a new contract at Goodison Park.

What’s the story?

Well, this is great news for Everton, as Simms is a huge prospect.

As mentioned in Everton’s announcement, the 20-year-old has struck up a solid relationship with Rafa Benitez, and is also taking inspiration from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Simms even claims that Everton’s No.9 is sharing little details with him in training about how to become a better striker – we could have Calvert-Lewin 2.0 on our hands.

Simms shone on loan at Blackpool last season, scoring ten goals in 24 games to fire the Seasiders to the League One Play-Off final.

The Everton wonderkid earned the move after seemingly finding youth football too easy, having scored 41 goals in 44 games for the Under-18 side.

Sadly, a groin injury ruled Simms out of the Play-Off final, while an ankle injury has blocked him from impressing Benitez.

Now, however, he is fit and raring to go.

Everton must use Ellis Simms over Salomon Rondon

Now Simms is back to full fitness, Benitez simply cannot use Rondon over him again – it would be criminal to do so.

Look at it this way. Hand valuable minutes to a real prospect who has bundles of potential to fill, or give those minutes to a 32-year-old with a few years left at the top level?

If you opt for the latter, you may be crazy.

In truth, signing Rondon on a two-year contract was a poor move, as it somewhat blocks Simms on his journey into the first-team.

Hopefully, the £1,300-a-week forward can oust the Venezuelan and get ahead of him in Benitez’s pecking order.

For now, let’s see what the Everton fans on Twitter have been saying about Simms…
