Liverpool beat Crystal Palace 3-1 on Sunday in what was a rather commanding performance.
The Reds were brilliant against the Eagles, and one man who certainly caught the eye was Virgil van Dijk.
The Dutchman netted the opening goal of the game, and he was, as ever, excellent at the back.
Perhaps he could have done better for Palace’s goal, but that’s nit-picking at what was a brilliant performance.
In fact, van Dijk was so good that he caught the eye of former Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldinho who paid tribute to the Dutchman on Instagram.
Ronaldinho praised van Dijk in Brazilian, with his comment translating to “You are fantastic, you play with elegance and command the defence like a maestro, congratulations.”
Van Dijk is undoubtedly one of the best defenders on the planet, and you have to be a very special player to earn praise from a legend like Ronaldinho.
The Brazilian has played with and against some of the greatest defenders of all-time, but he’s still been blown away by van Dijk’s performance against Palace.
We would have loved to have seen a prime Ronaldinho coming up against van Dijk, and while the Samba superstar is one of the most talented players of all time, it’s hard to pick who would have come out on top in that hypothetical battle.
