Jonas Lossl is thrilled to have left Everton in search of more regular game time back home in Denmark with FC Midtjylland, speaking to TV2.

During 18 months at Goodison Park, the experienced goalkeeper failed to make a single first-team appearance under Marco Silva or Carlo Ancelotti.

As the man himself says, it wasn’t exactly an ideal situation.

Because, with his place in Denmark’s European Championship squad on the line, Lossl knew he couldn’t afford to spend another few months on the sidelines behind Jordan Pickford and Robin Olsen in the Everton pecking order.

So no wonder he jumped at the chance to bring an immediate end to his forgettable stint on the blue half of Merseyside when Midtjylland came calling.

13 years after departing as a fresh-faced youngster, Lossl has rejoined the Danish champions on a free transfer.

And the former Huddersfield Town ace is now fully focused on forcing his way into the starting XI – although that will be easier said than done given the stand-out form of Jesper Hansen at the MCH Arena.

“I know I have to go after playing time. It is necessary to get to the European Championships, which means an insane amount to me,” Lossl says.

“I was in a situation at Everton that was untenable. That was not what I wanted.

“I should have some playing time. Midtjylland wanting me was just fantastic.”

However, according to former Denmark international Mads Junker there’s every chance Lossl will find himself stuck on the bench again, with Hansen in such irrepressible form.

“I don’t think Jonas Lossl has been brought in as first goalkeeper. It would be insanely surprising. I still see Hansen as the best,” Junker tells TV2.

“From Lossl’s point of view, I wonder can you not find a Championship club where you can play a lot? Or a Norwegian, German or Swedish club?”
