According to The Athletic, Willian is among a number of players who wants to leave Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

The Brazilian winger joined Arsenal only last summer, making the switch to the Emirates Stadium after leaving London rivals Chelsea.

The 32-year-old, who can also operate as a midfielder, was expected to be a massive success at Arsenal, but things have not turned out that way.

Willian has made 16 starts and nine substitute appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring one goal and providing five assists in the process.

The former Chelsea star also made three starts and six substitute appearances in the Europa League for Arsenal, providing two assists in the process.

Willian is 32 now, and an argument can be made that he is past his prime.

If the winger wants to leave, then Arsenal technical director Edu should just let him.

Willian may have joined Arsenal on a free transfer last summer, but, according to The Daily Mail, he could cost up to £35 million over his three-year contract.

That is a lot of money to pay a player in his 30s, especially one who is showing signs that he is on the wane.

Edu described the Brazilian winger as a player who has “a lot of fantastic attributes” on the club’s official website in August 2020.

That is very much true, but the fact of the matter is that Willian has simply not been good for Arsenal.

A mutual parting of the ways would make sense.
