Glasgow Rangers have received a boost with Ibrox skipper Lee Wallace nearing a return.

The Gers skipper has not played for the club since their draw with Partick Thistle back in September, with BBC Sport reporting shortly after that he had sustained a groin injury.

It has been a turbulent time for the club while the left-back has been away. Pedro Caixinha has been dismissed as manager, and Graeme Murty is now set to remain in charge of the first-team until the end of the year at least. And ahead of Murty’s seventh game in charge, he has confirmed that the club have received a major injury boost regarding their captain.

“He looks really good. Obviously he’s not going to be ready to be joining in but it’s fantastic for us to step his programme up and move him forward.”
In Wallace’s absence, Declan John has done a predominantly excellent job on the left-hand side of the defence, so it will be interesting to see what Murty decides to do with the left-back position when Wallace is finally ready to play.
There will certainly be some who will not want to see John dropped from the side, especially because of the attacking threat he carries running down the left flank – so perhaps Murty will consider pushing the Cardiff City loanee further up the pitch once Wallace is fully back up to speed.
But even if he decides to keep faith with John and bring Wallace back into the fold slowly, having both men available to him will undoubtedly be a boost as they could perhaps push each other as they battle for a place.
