According to Italian outlet, CMW, Newcastle United are plotting a move for Romelu Lukaku if they manage to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
The Magpies are currently flying high in the Premier League and the idea of a place in UEFA’s premier competition next season isn’t out of the question.
Of course, Champions League qualification would free up a lot of space in the Magpies’ budget, and they’re apparently ready to spend big on Lukaku.
It may not come as too much of a surprise to hear that United want Lukaku. After all, their Sporting Director, Dan Ashworth, once named the Belgian as the best signing he’d ever made, having brought him in during his time at West Brom.

Ashworth loves Lukaku
The former West Brom man named Lukaku as his best signing on the Baggies Broadcast Podcast.
“I’m just thinking of all the texts I’m going to get from players who are going to listen to this. I would have to say Lukaku, obviously he’s gone on and had a fantastic career as a top player, so player wise it’s probably him. Value for money wise, Odemwingie, as a player on his day was outstanding, so I’d have to say Odemwingie as a permanent and Lukaku as a loan,” Ashworth said.
History is there
Lukaku being linked to Newcastle may seem a bit outlandish. After all, they have both Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson at the club, but the history is there with Lukaku and Ashworth.
The Sporting Director knows exactly what the Belgian is capable of when he’s at his best, and after seeing what Eddie Howe can do with attacking talent, he surely backs his manager to get Lukaku playing how he can.
A fit and firing Lukaku is one of the most dangerous weapons in football, and this could be a great signing by Newcastle and Ashworth.
