According to EuroSport, Liverpool are keeping tabs on Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger as his contract begins to wind down.
The Reds aren’t the only Premier League club to have been credited with an interest in the German, Manchester City and Tottenham are also reportedly keen on the defender.
Interestingly, it isn’t only the higher-ups at Liverpool who rate Rudiger – one of their most important players is also a big fan of the Chelsea ace.
What’s been said?
Virgil van Dijk spoke to Sky Sports about some of the best defenders in the world earlier this month and he namechecked Rudiger.
“There’s so many good defenders out there,” van Dijk said.
“The old guys Sergio Ramos, Thiago Silva, Gerard Pique.
“The game has evolved and defending is different.
“If you look at (Aymeric) Laporte and (Antonio) Rudiger. I think he had a fantastic season last year and the way he came back from a knee injury, I have even more respect for him now.”

Imagine that pairing
Liverpool probably don’t need a new centre-back at the moment. After all, they have the likes of Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate deputising behind van Dijk, but could you imagine the partnership the Dutchman could form with Rudiger?
Rudiger is certainly a similar player to van Dijk, they’re both absolutely rapid and brilliant on the ball, and if the Reds were able to unite this duo they’d be nigh on unbeatable at the back.
Of course, whether or not this move comes to fruition remains to be seen, but this could be a frightening signing if Liverpool can pull this off.
