Well, the Reds have decided to appoint the 59-year-old to represent them in England as well as overseas at club events.

Barnes joins Ian Rush an an official ambassador of Liverpool.

In the announcement, Liverpool quote the man who won 79 caps for England as saying: “It’s a fantastic honour for me to be made an ambassador for this great club and all it stands for. I loved representing LFC as a player and I’m relishing the prospect of wearing the beloved Liver bird crest on my chest once again – albeit on a suit this time around.”

The decision has seemingly come with the approval of Carragher, who described the news as “fantastic” when writing on his official Twitter account.

Billy Hogan – Chief Executive Officer of Liverpool – added: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome John Barnes as an LFC ambassador.

“He is a true legend at this football club, and we know how much Liverpool Football Club means to him. John had a huge impact in his ten years here, both on and off the pitch. We look forward to seeing the impact he will have moving forward in his ambassadorial role.”

Barnes has earned the accolade after helping Liverpool win two league titles, two FA Cups, one League Cup and four Community Shields.
