Liverpool are said to be interested in signing Mason Mount in 2023 – a player who Gary Lineker is a huge fan of.

That was according to the Guardian, who believe Jürgen Klopp – and also Juventus – are monitoring the England international, who is yet to sign a new contract at Chelsea.

Liverpool want Mason Mount

Well, the 23-year-old will only have 12 months remaining on his contract at the end of the season, and Chelsea are desperate to keep him at Stamford Bridge.

Discussions over a renewal have been put on hold until Mount returns from the World Cup, although Chelsea’s owners are confident of keeping the attacking midfielder, who has been with the Blues since the age of six.

If Liverpool are successful in their attempts to sign the Chelsea No.19 in 2023, the move would come with Lineker’s approval.

The BBC Match of the Day host has previously showered Mount in praise, describing him as a midfielder with “fantastic energy” while also calling him the “best player” at Chelsea in comments from January 2021.

You can see what Lineker tweeted in full below.

So far this season, Mount has scored two goals and provided six assists in 21 appearances across all competitions.

Mason Mount would thrive at Liverpool

In our view, Mount is the ideal Klopp midfielder.

The England international has incredible stamina, so he would be able to carry out the German’s high intensity pressing football to an effective standard.

Mount also possesses quality in the final third, as he has a fine eye for a pass, and can also finish strongly.

In many ways, he could be Klopp’s new Ilkay Gundogan, who made a name for himself under the 55-year-old at Borussia Dortmund.

It would also give Liverpool bragging rights over a top-six rival if they stole one of Chelsea’s best players in a cut-price deal.

Keep an eye on this situation, as we should know more once Chelsea and Mount sit down to negotiate after the World Cup ends.
