Preston North End boss Ryan Lowe has told Cameron Archer ‘not to worry’ after missing an enticing chance to continue his strong start on loan from Aston Villa, via Birmingham Live.

Archer created a golden chance to secure victory for the Lilywhites at home to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday. But after racing through on goal, the 20-year-old hit wide from 12-yards as the Championship tie ended 0-0. Leaving Preston 12th and six-points off the play-offs.

The forward had scored four over his prior seven games since moving to Deepdale for the rest of the season. Two of his efforts had also resulted in Preston claiming 1-0 wins against Hull City and Peterborough United. He also helped beat West Brom 2-0 but lost to Reading.

Preston boss Lowe backs ‘fantastic’ Aston Villa loanee Archer to thrive

Archer has proven to be a very composed presence in the box since leaving Aston Villa for Preston. He will also hope to continue stretching his record in front of goal while in Lowe’s side to show Gerrard what he can offer him ahead of returning to Villa Park this summer.

Lowe is confident Archer will continue to score for the Deepdale natives if he keeps doing what he is doing. He has also put an arm around the youngster’s shoulder after his costly miss against Nottingham Forest.

“I’ve told him not to worry about it,” Lowe said. “He’s a fantastic kid and has scored loads of goals for us and will score more. I’ve looked back and it’s harder than you think, the ‘keeper has spread himself well. He’s getting in fantastic positions.”
