Before Everton’s game against Southampton, Sky Sports revealed that the Villans have kept the most away clean sheets across Europe’s top five leagues this season.
Villa are level with Paris Saint-Germain on eight shutouts when playing away from home.
The Midlands-based outfit’s impressive achievement is made all the more applaudable by another table under that graphic.
That specific chart shows how many away clean sheets Villa amassed last season.
Amazingly, Smith’s side failed to record a single clean sheet away from Villa Park last term.
The strides Villa have made to go from one of Europe’s leakiest sides, to one of Europe’s most solid teams this season, is almost unbelievable.
It is testament to the work put in by Smith and John Terry behind the scenes, and also the work of Johan Lange in the recruitment department.
The signings of Matty Cash and Emiliano Martinez have completely transformed Villa’s backline, to say the least.
