West Ham United have signed striker Javier Hernandez.

West Ham United have completed their fourth – and arguably most exciting – signing of the summer by landing striker Javier Hernandez from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Hammers had already tied up the signature of Pablo Zabaleta before landing both Joe Hart and Marko Arnautovic last week, arriving from Manchester City and Stoke City respectively.

Manager Slaven Bilic has now landed another signing, and he looks to have finally brought in the proven goalscorer he has been searching for after years of poor signings in the final third.

Mexican international Javier Hernandez has joined West Ham on a three-year deal, after a deal – claimed by The Guardian to be worth £16million – was agreed between the Hammers and Bayer Leverkusen.

Hernandez, 29, hit 39 goals in 76 games for Leverkusen, but will be best remembered for his time with Manchester United, where he scored 59 goals in 157 games following a 2010 move from Guadalajara.

Hernandez now returns to the Premier League as West Ham hope he will solve their striking woes, with fans and even ex-Hammers players excited about the deal.

Former West Ham striker Dean Ashton took to Twitter on Monday evening to praise co-chairman David Gold for securing the deal, claiming it’s ‘fantastic business’ to have landed a goal poacher like Hernandez.

Frank McAvennie added that he is delighted to see a ‘proper goalscorer’ join West Ham, whilst Trevor Sinclair tweeted that the club have overseen ‘superb recruitment’ as Hernandez caps off their summer spending.
