Noel Whelan has raved about Leeds United youngster Jamie Shackleton on Twitter.

The former Leeds striker, who now works as a pundit for BBC Radio Leeds, made the comments about the 20-year-old – who can operate as a midfielder or as a wing-back – after the Whites’ win against Derby County at the weekend.

The youngster started the Championship game at Pride Park Stadium on Sunday and played for the entire 90 minutes, and he also scored in the 75th minute.

Whelan was impressed with the youngster, and believes that he has a bright future ahead of him.

The former Leeds striker was also impressed with the display produced by the 20-year-old defender Pascal Struijk.

Whelans said about Struijk on BBC Radio Leeds (4pm, July 19, 2020): “I’ve got to say Struijk had a fantastic game. I’ve just seen him walking off now with Kalvin Phillips, again big, strong player.

“Not seen too much of him. Grew into the game against Barnsley under difficult circumstances.

“I think the nerves crept into the whole team that evening. It was just about grinding it out. But he was excellent. Really strong in that position.”
