Speaking to PLZ Soccer, Liverpool’s Andy Robertson has been waxing-lyrical about Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney.
Robertson is of course set to play alongside Tierney at the upcoming European Championships, and he’s relishing the idea of lining up alongside the Arsenal star.
What has Robertson said?
The Liverpool ace was full of praise for the Arsenal man, proclaiming him to be a ‘fantastic footballer’ who will only get better.
“Look, I played the game against Arsenal when KT did his knee, and I spoke to him after the game and he was gutted about his injury. I spoke to him the next day after the scan and luckily it wasn’t as bad as first feared. He’s played a couple of games for Arsenal since then, which is perfect for us, getting him up to match fitness,” Robertson said.
“KT is a fantastic, fantastic footballer. He’s a pleasure to play alongside, when we play five at the back, me and him have got the balance right defensively and we’ve proven to people that we can play in the same team, which some people doubted, and you know, KT I’ve got a lot of time for him as a person and as a footballer, he’s an incredible player.
“He’s still young, people forget that he has a lot of potential ahead of him to get even better and he already is a fantastic player, but he’ll only get better and better with his attitude.”
Scotland’s dilemma
Robertson says that he loves playing alongside Tierney, but Steve Clarke still has a real job on his hands when it comes to getting the best out of the pair.
Sadly, Scotland’s two best players both play in exactly the same position, so there has to be a bit of a rejig in the side to fit both of them in, and that usually means making a sacrifice elsewhere.
How Clarke manages this dilemma at the Euros remains to be seen, but he surely has to find a way to get both players into his XI.
