Everton midfielder Andre Gomes is now travelling to France to sign for LOSC Lille whilst the Ligue 1 side continue negotiations with the Toffees over his last-ditch deadline day transfer.

According to Sky Sports, Andre Gomes is on his way to France in the hopes of finalising his deadline day transfer from Everton to LOSC Lille. The Premier League and Ligue 1 sides are still in talks over the structure of a likely move, but the 29-year-old has permission to travel.

Reports by L’Equipe first cited Les Dogues’ interest in the Portuguese securing a last-gasp switch. The Stade Pierre Mauroy natives turned their attentions to the midfielder after the northern France outfit missed out on a move for former Hoffenheim star Florian Grillitsch.

Paulo Fonseca is desperate to continue improving his engine room after taking over from Jocelyn Gourvennec this July. Adam Ounas is on course to become a new Lille player once the Napoli star has passed a medical, having secured a €2.5m (£2m) deal plus a sell-on fee.

Lille are in urgent need of extra bodies, having seen their core be torn apart during the off-season. Renato Sanches sealed a £12.5m move to Paris Saint-Germain earlier on in August, before Everton signed Amadou Onana for £33m. Les Dogues also released Xeka this June.

Andre Gomes faced a fraught future at Goodison Park under Frank Lampard

Gomes would offer Lille a wealth of experience, should Everton agree terms for Fonseca to sign the 29-year-old. He has made 100 appearances for the Toffees across all competitions since joining from Barcelona in an initial loan in 2018 that they made permanent for £22m.

The 29-cap midfielder has struggled to add to his tally of outings across the last two terms. He only played 14 matches in the Premier League last season, while starting seven fixtures. And his outlook continues to look bleak under Frank Lampard with zero games this season.

Lampard named Gomes in a matchday squad for the first time this term as the Toffees and Leeds United drew 1-1 on Tuesday night. But he did not bring the £112k-a-week star – who Carlo Ancelotti believed was ‘fantastic’ whilst at the Blues – onto the pitch at Elland Road.
