Salernitana are nearing a deal to sign Lys Mousset on loan for the remainder of the season with an option to buy the Sheffield United striker, should they secure their Serie A survival.
That’s according to Gianluca Di Marzio, who notes the Blades are letting Mousset move to Italy after a breakthrough in talks. Stefano Colantuono’s Arechi Stadium natives eyed a late move for the Frenchman as they battle to move off the bottom.
Salernitana have won just three of their 22 games so far this season, but remain hopeful of securing their safety. The 20th-place side are eight-points from Venezia, yet hold a game in hand over fellow relegation rivals Cagliari and Genoa.

Scoring goals has been a key issue for Colantuono’s side, who boast the Italian top-flight’s worst offence. They have only struck 14 goals over their fixtures, six fewer than any other team. They also have the worst defence with 53 goals allowed.
So, Salernitana have moved to strengthen in the winter window and have held talks with Sheffield United over Mousset’s transfer. The Granata have now reached an agreement in principle with the Blades for the 25-year-old’s arrival, as well.
Mousset will move to the Arechi Stadium on loan for the rest of the term with Salernitana covering his wage. The Granata will also obtain an option to buy Sheffield United’s £10m signing from Bournemouth if they can avoid relegation.
Mousset may have played his final Sheffield United game already
Mousset, then, may have played his final Sheffield United game already ahead of joining Salernitana in a loan transfer. The forward has only featured seven times so far this term across all competitions for a mere 320-minutes.

He has also scored three goals, which Colantuono will hope Mousset can build on in Italy amid their survival bid. But the forward – who former Blades boss Chris Wilder called a ‘fantastic’ signing – has not featured since November 6.
