Speaking to the Design Museum to celebrate the launch of its new exhibition, Football: Designing the Beautiful Game, Ray Parlour has been chatting the idea of Serge Gnabry returning to Arsenal.
Gnabry has, somewhat remarkably, been linked with Arsenal in recent weeks, and while Parlour says that the German is a fantastic player who he’d love to have back at the club, he doesn’t think the Gunners should be prioritising such a move.
What’s been said?
Parlour gave his view on Gnabry returning to Arsenal.
“Serge Gnabry is a fantastic player and I’ve been really impressed with everything that he’s done at Bayern Munich, but I don’t think he should be a priority for this summer because we have other positions that need to be addressed first. We already have the likes of Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli and Smith-Rowe in and around where Gnabry would want to play. If there’s an opportunity to sign Gnabry at the right price, I would love to see him return to Arsenal because there’s no doubting his quality and the fans would love to have him back. However, I would miss out on Gnabry if it meant we could sign our first-choice striker because that’s what we need to prioritise this summer,” Parlour said.

Not a priority
As Parlour says, Gnabry would be a good signing, but he’d be a luxury rather than a necessity.
If there’s one position that Arsenal are pretty set in right now, it’s on the wing.
Emile Smith Rowe, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka are three of the brightest young talets in the Premier League, and while Gnabry is arguably better than any of those three, the long-term development of these youngster has to take precedence.
Of course, if Arsenal have a massive budget this summer they should go for Gnabry, but they need to sort out signing a striker before anything else.
