Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Paul Merson has been discussing Harry Kane’s future and his next steps.

Like almost every other pundit in England, Merson has tipped Kane for a move to Manchester United as he desperately chases down a piece of silverware before the end of his career.

Merson also pondered the idea of Kane moving to Chelsea, but he says that a move to Stamford Bridge can not happen, claiming that the England captain would be sacrificing his entire legacy at Tottenham if he were to go to Chelsea due to the fact Spurs and the Blues, quite simply, do not get on.

Kane can’t go to Chelsea

Merson discussed the idea of Kane heading to Stamford Bridge.

“Kane to Chelsea? That can’t happen. If he comes to Chelsea, he loses his legacy at Tottenham. Tottenham fans would go mad. For him to go over to Chelsea, it would be the next notch down from going to Arsenal. Chelsea and Tottenham don’t get on,” Merson wrote

Not a big deal

Paul Merson says that Kane’s entire legacy at Spurs would be ruined if he joined Chelsea, but we can’t help but feel as though that wouldn’t be the case.

Aside from Kane, who is Tottenham’s biggest legend? Most would agree that Jimmy Greaves and Glenn Hoddle are both in that conversation, and, both men played for Chelsea without letting it ruin their Spurs legacy.

Merson is completely overestimating how much of a big deal this is. There are some divides in world football that just can not be crossed, but this isn’t one of them.

Kane would receive plenty of stick if he swapped Spurs for Chelsea, but he wouldn’t ruin his legacy.
