Speaking on the Premier League’s official website, Alan Shearer has named his Team of the Season so far.
Inevitably, many Newcastle players made the cut given Shearer’s obvious affiliations with the Magpies combined with Eddie Howe’s side’s ridiculously good start to the season.
The likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier and Nick Pope all made the cut, while there was also a place for Fabian Schar at the back.
Shearer picked Schar as one of his central defenders, stating that the Swiss international has proven a lot of his doubters wrong with his impressive turnaround under Eddie Howe.

Proven people wrong
Shearer had nothing but good things to say about the defender.
“The other centre-half I’m going for is Fabian Schar at Newcastle. Under Steve Bruce one or two fans were questioning him, but his performances under Eddie Howe have been superb. He’s been a huge part alongside Pope and Trippier in why Newcastle have looked so tight at the back this season,” Shearer said.
Incredible turnaround
So much has been made of the likes of Joelinon and Miguel Almiron’s improvements in recent months, but Schar has had a similarly incredible turnaround.
The Swiss defender was a part of a Newcastle side that looked absolutely useless under Steve Bruce last season, but now, he’s made Shearer’s Team of the Season so far, and he deserves his spot.
Not only has he been brilliant at the back, his ball-playing ability has also helped the Magpies when going forward.
Schar is becoming a top class operator and he deserves all of the plaudits he’s been getting.
